Tidewater, in a Joint-Venture (JV) partnership with Chesapeake Nuclear Services, Inc. (ChesNuc), integrates regulatory knowledge, practical experience, and state-of-the-art radiation monitoring instruments with its field service capabilities to provide comprehensive radiological support to federal, state, and private sector clients. Key JV management personnel are certified by the American Board of Health Physics. JV partner ChesNuc holds radioactive materials licenses in Maryland and Ohio. The Maryland license enables the JV partners to conduct reciprocal decommissioning activities nationwide.
We specialize in performing operational radiation safety, environmental assessment, radiological site characterization, and site decontamination and decommissioning. We maintain a complete inventory of calibrated, field-ready health physics instruments, including portable gamma spectroscopy systems, large area gas flow proportional counters, FIDLER detectors, and a variety of hand-held detection instruments for alpha, beta, gamma, and neutron detection.
We assist clients with:
- Regulatory compliance support;
- Radioactive material management;
- Facility and burial site decontamination and decommissioning, including Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM)-based approaches;
- Residual Radioactivity (RESRAD) dose modeling and development of Derived Concentration Guideline Levels (DCGLs) to guide cleanup;
- Preparation of Final Status Survey (FSS) plans and reports;
- Low-level radioactive waste brokering, transportation and disposal; and
- Radioactive material license application and termination.
To accurately assess radiological site conditions, JV partner ChesNuc has developed a proprietary Global Positioning System/Geographic Information System (GPS/GIS)-based Mapping and Radiation Survey System (MARSS) to characterize, map, and report radiological conditions. The system is useful for scoping and final status surveys, as well as real-time response to actual or hypothetical releases of radioactive material.
For all radiological services, the JV operates under a comprehensive Quality Assurance, Radiation Safety, and Health and Safety Plan. We are committed to creating a safe environment for our employees, clients, subcontractors, and the general public.
